SECRET GARDEN TEA & TREATS

Keywords: Botanical Garden, Viewing Deck, Tea Tasting, Cake Tasting, Culture, History

In Seychelles, it’s a cherished tradition for families to gather at 4 PM for tea, providing a moment to relax and reconnect after school and work. Join us for tea and cake tasting, set in the beautiful Secret Garden where you will enjoy hot and cold teas, fresh local juice, and a series of traditional Creole cakes such as palm wine cake (Gato Kalou), cassava flour biscuits (Galet Mayok), and other local treats.

Before you reach the viewing deck where you will enjoy the assorted tea and treats, you will take a leisurely stroll through the lush Secret Garden, a botanical haven showcasing a variety of plants such as lemongrass, cinnamon, ylang-ylang and many others that were staples in traditional Creole households for their healing properties and culinary uses. Many of these plants were either endemic to Seychelles or introduced during the colonial era through the Indian and Chinese spice trade, a testament to the rich cultural exchanges that shaped Seychelles' unique history.

In addition to the botanical wonders, the Secret Garden also features animals that were once common sights in Creole homes such as ducks, peacocks, and turkeys; offering visitors a glimpse into the lifestyle of Seychellois families from earlier times.
